Spelling Spotter

Two kinds of question: pick the correctly spelled word from a line-up, or hunt down the misspelt word hiding in a sentence. What does this practise? (a quick guide for parents)

Spelling questions in the 11+ usually show several similar spellings and ask which is right, or hide one wrong spelling in a sentence. Both reward the same thing: really looking at words rather than guessing from their shape.

Every answer comes with a memory trick. The tricks are the valuable bit: they stick long after the round is over.
